Northern Offshore’s jackup rig Energy Enhancer will be marked by Tideland Signal’s Syncrolan LED light stations when it goes on station in the North Sea. To warn shipping in the vicinity of the rig, Northern Offshore have installed three Tideland Syncrolan LED light stations with a central battery bank and a 24v charger, which provide 96 hours back-up for the secondary lights.

Tideland’s Syncrolan light stations combine an MLED-180HI EX LED main light with a range of 15 NM and an MLED-150 EX LED secondary light with a range of 10 NM. The whole assembly is mounted on a galvanised steel pedestal and wired to an Exd monitoring/switching enclosure that provides a fail alarm to an existing central monitoring panel.

Tideland’s MLED-150 and MLED-180 lanterns offer minimal maintenance requirements and an expected service life in excess of twenty five years on station in the most demanding environments. Long-life LEDs and high-integrity electronics are employed to maximise reliability and minimise maintenance.

The light stations are ATEX certified for use in Zone 1 (Cat 2) hazardous areas.

Based in Aberdeen, Northern Offshore operates oil and gas production and drilling vessels around the world, including the Indian Ocean, the Mediterranean and South East Asia as well as the North Sea. The company’s fleet consists of one floating production facility and five drilling units, including one drillship, a semi-submersible and three jackup drilling rigs. Energy Enhancer is designed for all year round operation in the harsh environment of the North Sea, in water depths of up to 91.5 m (300 ft) with an available leg below the hull of 112 m (367 ft).

Approved to ISO 9001:2008, Tideland Signal Limited is a British-based member of the Tideland group of companies, which specialises in aids to marine navigation. The Tideland group is independently owned and has its headquarters in Houston, Texas.
