Severn Trent De Nora Provides SEACLOR System for LNG Facility in Malaysia

Severn Trent De Nora will provide its SEACLOR® seawater electrochlorination system to control biofouling at a liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification facility developed by PETRONAS Gas Berhad in Sungai Udang, Melaka, Malaysia.

The new facility, which is designed to import LNG, store it at floating storage units and then vaporize it at the regasification unit, is scheduled for completion in mid-2012. The contract for the 71-kg/h SEACLOR system was awarded by Sapura Energy Ventures Sdn Bhd of Malaysia.

During the liquefaction and regasification process, chlorinated seawater is used for cooling or heating in order to control biofouling. Sodium hypochlorite, generated onsite, is an excellent chlorine equivalent for this biofouling control application.

According to Marwan Nesicolaci, vice president of international sales and business development for Severn Trent De Nora , “ Governments and industries in Asia Pacific have relied on Severn Trent De Nora and our proven electrolytic disinfection technology equipment for biofouling control for more than 35 years. Our SEACLOR electrochlorination technology eliminates dependency on outside suppliers and the heavy costs of purchased commercial products since our system generates a proven disinfection agent on site .”

SEACLOR systems have demonstrated reliable, economic and low maintenance operation in controlling biofouling at power plants and at cooling towers, LNG terminals and desalination facilities around the world. The systems range in capacity from 10 to 900 kg/h per train.
