Pakistan is willing to boost its natural gas imports from Iran to 50 million cubic meters per day, the caretaker of the National Iranian Gas Exporting Company (NIGEC), Hossein Bidarmaghz announced.
According to the former contract between two countries, Iran was slated to export 21 million cubic meters of gas per day to Pakistan since the beginning of 2014, SHANA news agency quoted Hossein Bidarmaghz as saying.
Referring to the recent trip of Pakistani energy minister to Assalouyeh, he said Pakistan requested for increasing the amount by 30 million cubic meters per day.
He went on to say that, Pakistani officials are willing to increase gas import from Iran to 50 million cubic meters per day in the second phase due to their mounting gas needs.
It’s worth mentioning that Iran has the potential capacity to meet Pakistan demand adding a final decision in this regard will be taken after full examination of the subject.
“ Iran has already built 80 percent of its portion of the gas pipeline up to the Pakistani border and Pakistan aims to speed up the construction of its portion of the gas pipeline project to begin supplying gas by 2014 or even one year earlier ”, the official further said.
