A yard in South Tyneside is this week celebrating an order hat-trick.
The vessel Acergy Petrel sailed into the A&P Tyne yard at Hebburn for a two-week repair contract.
This is the latest order secured from Subsea 7, and provides welcome employment for the yard’s 250-strong core workforce.
The new arrival comes just days after the Hebburn yard completed repairs to the construction and cable-laying vessel Acergy Eagle.
This followed an earlier successful contract in the summer on the Seven Oceans, another pipelaying vessel from Subsea 7’s large fleet.
Stewart Boak, managing director of A&P Tyne , said: “This vessel is now the third contract from Subsea 7 in the last three months.
“Our project teams, workforce and subcontractors are delivering a high quality product to the customer, giving them comfort in our ability to deliver cost-effective, safe solutions, which allows them to place repeat work with A&P.
“The vessel will be at Hebburn for a couple of weeks while we undertake thruster and general maintenance repairs.
“This is hopefully the next step in the process of becoming a Subsea 7-preferred repair yard in Europe, and we thank the customer for their continuing support of our business.”
A&P Tyne recently completed its part in the massive contract for new aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth.
The yard won a £55m order to build sections of two new carriers for the Royal Navy.
Workers at Hebburn will start building part of the hull of the second carrier, HMS Prince of Wales, early next year.
