SNC-Lavalin announces that it has been awarded a contract by Statoil UK to carry out front-end engineering for its approximately 20,000 tonne substructure for the Mariner offshore development in the North Sea.

Andy Mackintosh, Executive Vice-President, SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . commented:

“We’re very pleased to be working with Statoil on this project, which it considers one of its landmark offshore UK development projects,”

The jacket, which will be installed by barge, will be located in a water depth of 110 metres and support 50 wells. It will also support a large production, drilling and quarters (PDQ) topside facility. The oil will be exported to a nearby floating storage unit and then to market by shuttle tanker. Statoil expects a final investment decision in late 2012 and first oil in late 2016. The participating interests in License P335 are Statoil (Operator) 65.1%, ENI 28.9% and Nautical Petroleum 6%.

“Securing this engineering contract for one of the largest North Sea jackets in recent times demonstrates our depth of expertise in a globally competitive market.” added Mackintosh.

Statoil became the operator of the Mariner and Bressay fields in late 2007 with the objective to develop a production hub in a prolific heavy oil area. In the UK Statoil pursues a broad range of activities relating to energy production and oil and gas sales.

SNC-Lavalin is one of the leading engineering and construction groups in the world and a major player in the ownership of infrastructure, and in the provision of operations and maintenance services. SNC-Lavalin has offices across Canada and in over 40 other countries around the world, and is currently working in some 100 countries. In business since 1911, the Company celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2011.
