Octanex N.L. advises that the acquisition phase of the new Kingfisher 2D seismic survey has been completed. The Kingfisher survey, located in the WA- 421-P permit, is the first of six 2D and 3D seismic surveys being acquired within six of the Company’s eight Southern Bonaparte Basin permits offshore of Western Australia.
The Kingfisher survey acquired approximately 959 km of new 2D data and the survey was completed on time, within budget and more than fulfils the WA-421-P permit’s Year 3 work obligation for 850 km of new 2D data.
Later in the six-survey programme, the Tamar survey will see the acquisition of 410 km2 of new 3D data, predominantly within the WA-420-P permit but partially within WA-421-P.
The Tamar and Kingfisher surveys are linked in their endeavour to identify potential oil and gas targets, based on a play concept where the inferred source of the hydrocarbons is the Malita Graben.
The interpreted migration pathway is along the Tamar Nose’ and into the north-eastern comer of the WA-421-P permit – see the WA-420-P & WA-421-P Postulated Oil & Gas Migratidp Pathway Map attached as Figure 2.
The new Kingfisher 2D data, when combined with relevant pre-existing and recently reprocessed 2D data, are expected to provide excellent coverage for this play over an area of some 2,500 km2 within the WA-420-P and WA-421-P permits. As displayed in the Migration Pathway Map, the play extends from WA-420-P into WA-421-P, and the Tamar 3D survey is to be acquired to further evaluate what is an extensive play type.
Seabird Exploration FZ LLC is carrying out the six sun/eys and the acquisition vessel is the “Voyager Explorer”. The surveys are expected to take approximately 90 days to complete overall.
The “Voyager Explorer” has been mobilised to and commenced the next survey, which is the 550 km Hawk 2D survey to be acquired within the WA-441-P permit.
