ST Kinetics, the land systems arm of ST Engineering, and Cargotec, on November 18, signed a cooperation agreement to develop automated seaport equipment. The parties have agreed to begin cooperation by developing prototypes and related systems for container terminal customers.
ST Kinetics brings to this collaboration its core strengths in vehicle development, know-how in drive systems and sensor technology, and 10 years of experience developing Unmanned Ground Vehicles for defence applications. While Cargotec, the world’s leading provider of cargo handling solutions whose products are used in the different stages of material flow at seaport terminals, will provide its seaport automation solutions. This collaboration enables both parties to tap on each other’s strengths and expertise, and is a continuation of an earlier cooperation in 2010 where the two parties successfully developed the Hybrid Hydraulic Drive Terminal Tractor.
This collaboration with Cargotec follows the recent launch of the SP-STK Robotics Laboratory with Singapore Polytechnics in October to develop infrastructure-based navigation technologies for Automated Guided Vehicle applications. These developments further strengthen ST Kinetics’ position to rapidly design, develop and provide comprehensive automation solutions for the material handling industry, including the seaport segment.
