On November 10, 2011, DSC Dredge, LLC and Supreme Dredge & Processing, LLC together created a new company known as Supreme-DSC Dredge, LLC. The company was formed as a Louisiana-based corporation with major component manufacturing taking place at the Stoneboro, PA manufacturing facility, as well as existing DSC facilities. DSC and Supreme have been discussing the possibility of combining forces to complement each company’s product lines since early 2011.
All that was needed was the catalyst to officially create Supreme-DSC Dredge, LLC. That catalyst was provided by interest from a Mid-West aggregate supplier that recently ordered a 16 yard clamshell dredge from Supreme-DSC Dredge, LLC. Key features for the dredge include: a 16 cubic yard bucket with extra weight for better penetration, 200 foot dredging depth capability, gantry style hoist frame, 50-ton electric hoist, and a multitude of processing and conveying equipment.
The Company was using a cutter suction dredge that could not penetrate a layer of hard cobblestones and wanted information on clamshell dredges.
“ After touring their site and watching their cutterhead dredge and processing plant in operation, we were confident that our clamshell would be able to penetrate their deposit and be able to retrieve much more of their valuable reserves ”, commented Neil Hoobler, President of Supreme-DSC .
The Company purchased a small used clamshell dredge to test the capability of mining the deposit mechanically. They knew the dredge was not big enough to meet their production requirements, but wanted to prove that it could effectively dig their deposit. The Company was confident that a clamshell dredge would dig the difficult deposit and was then ready to proceed with a larger machine. The Company signed a letter of intent in October and completed their selections for the processing equipment in November, resulting in an order for the new 16 yard clamshell dredge from Supreme-DSC. The dredge is scheduled to be commissioned in August 2012.
