AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has been appointed by Centrica Energy Upstream to provide engineering, construction and project support services for their East Irish Sea onshore and offshore gas production assets.
The 5-year contract is valued at £75 million (USD 117.4 million). AMEC’s scope of work includes project support, core operations and maintenance and shutdown support for a mixture of manned and unmanned offshore assets, as well as onshore gas terminals in the Morecambe Bay area.
AMEC will start the contract transition phase immediately with approximately 100 employees from the previous contractor transfering to AMEC under TUPE (the Transfer of Undertakings – Protection of Employment) regulations. The contract will be fully transferred by January 2012.

The contract will be managed from AMEC’s Wynyard office, in the North East of England.
The East Irish Sea gas fields are among the largest in the UK continental shelf in terms of remaining reserves. Current production is about six per cent of the UK’s peak gas demand, enough to supply more than two million homes.
