Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has given consent to Wintershall Norge ASA for exploration drilling of well 6407/1-5 S in the Norwegian Sea with the mobile facility Borgland Dolphin.
The well will be drilled in production license 475 BS/ CS, 39 kilometers southwest of Heidrun at water depth of 300 meters.
Drilling is expected to start in December 2011 and the operations will last up to 87 days, depending on the findings.
Borgland Dolphin (photo) is a semi-submersible drilling facility, type Aker H3, built at Bergens Mekaniske yard in 1976. The facility is operated by Dolphin AS.
Borgland Dolphin was originally built as a flotel and was converted into a mobile drilling facility by Harlan and Wolff Shipsbuilding and Heavy Industries Ltd. in Belfast, from October 1997 to December 1999.
Wintershall had already established itself as an active participant in the E&P sector in Norway, when the company acquired the former Norwegian oil and gas company Revus Energy ASA in December 2008. Wintershall Norge ASA is based in Stavanger, the heart of Norway’s offshore industry.
