Siemens Industry, Inc. today announced it has improved upon its popular Siship Blue Drive with the launch of its Blue™ Drive Plus C system, a new diesel electric propulsion system now available in the United States.

Developed by Siemens Marine Solutions Global Center of Competence in Trondheim, Norway, the innovative Blue™ Drive Plus C is unrivaled in the marine market today, and offers an alternative to pricier, less energy-efficient solutions for offshore service vessels.

“This energy-efficient drive has set a new industry standard,” said Doug Keith, president, Drive Technologies, Siemens Industry. “With the myriad of environmental, maintenance and cost benefits that it offers, the Blue™ Drive Plus C will be invaluable to vessel owners and operators in the U.S.”

Based on Siemens ground-breaking diesel electric technology, the system uses less fuel, resulting in substantial cost and energy savings. The environmentally-friendly Blue™ Drive Plus C offers a significant reduction in harmful greenhouse gases. The total emissions of NOx and greenhouse gases for the new drive is lower than for other comparable vessels with diesel or gas operations. When compared with dual-fuel offshore vessels with the same operating profile, greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by up to 27 percent.

Other benefits of the Blue™ Drive Plus C include reduced diesel engine maintenance costs and reduced total energy consumption of up to 15 percent as compared to other diesel electric propulsion systems currently on the market. When compared to gas or dual fuel operations, the energy savings increase to 23 percent.

Siemens Marine Solutions is among the world’s leading suppliers of diesel-electric propulsion systems with over 160 low voltage diesel electric propulsion systems in operation around the world.
