Recently Fassmer handed over “AMRUMBANK”, a new 44.5-metre buoy-laying vessel, to the Water and Maritime Authority Tönning in Wittdün on the German North Sea island of Amrum. The ship is the first of three new buoy-layers with a length of about 44 metres.
Fassmer was commissioned to design and build after winning an EU-wide invitation to tender. The two other buoy-layer are under construction with deliveries scheduled for the middle and end of 2012, respectively.
The concept selected for “Amrumbank” features a robust, flat displacement hull with excellent manoeuverability optimised by an efficient voith schneider system. The main engine output was limited to 2 x 375 kW max. for economic reasons. The specifications required for a minimum speed of 11 kn and good stability for safe working at sea, also in crane operations. The hull and superstructure are made of steel, the bridge of seawater-resistant aluminium.
