A coalition of Pacific Civil Society organizations has called for a slow down in authorization of deep seabed mining in the Pacific Region.
Procedures taken by numerous governments to legitimize and fast-track experimental seabed mining exploration as a development opportunity caused concerns among organizations.
The organizations say that Papua New Guinea has been providing the all clear for a mining work off New Ireland province.
Tonga and Nauru are also pursuing exploration licences, and Fiji is contemplating a similar move.
