Royal Dutch Shell plc a global oil and gas company headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands, has spilled 13.000 gallons of drilling fluid mixed with oil in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Reuters reports.
The spill occurred from Shell operated Deepwater Nautilus rig in vicinity of Deepwater Horizon disaster location (Macondo). The world’s largest drilling contractor, Transocean, is the owner of the rig.
Reuters further states that the incident happened during drilling operations at Shell’s Appomattox discovery.
Coast Guard spokesperson explained that a very light oil sheen was spotted during an overflight but didn’t comment on the size of it.
In March 2010 Shell made a significant oil discovery in the deepwater eastern Gulf of Mexico located at the Appomattox prospect in 2,200 metres (7,217 feet) of water in Mississippi Canyon blocks 391 and 392.
