Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd (DSME), the second largest shipbuilder in the world and one of the “Big Three” shipbuilders of South Korea, expects to secure new orders worth roughly $11 billion in 2012, according to Reuters.
DSME’s CEO was quoted as saying that the company expects the majority of orders would come from offshore oil and gas sector for new drillships.
He also said that DSME would splash around 435 million in new hires and new facilities next year.
Daewoo Shipbulding recently entered into a turnkey construction contract with Atwood Oceanics, Inc. to construct an ultra-deepwater drillship, to be named the Atwood Achiever, at the DSME yard in South Korea.
The Atwood Achiever is expected to be delivered by June 30, 2014 at a total cost, including project management, drilling and handling tools and spares, of approximately $600 million.
