Transocean, the largest drilling contractor in the world, has been awarded a five-year drilling contract by Chevron which requires the construction and operation of a Keppel FELS Super B Class Jackup .
The rig will be named Transocean Siam Driller, announced Transocean in its Fleet Status Report. During the first 36 months of the contract, the contract dayrate is $135,000, excluding escalation.
The dayrate for the remaining two years will depend on market dayrates within specific parameters.
Transocean Andaman
California based oil & gas giant, Chevron, has also awarded Transocean a three-year drilling contract for Transocean Andaman jack-up. The rig will be of the same type as the above mentioned Transocean Siam Driller.The contract dayrate is $145,000, excluding escalation.
Both of the rigs are expected to begin operations during the first quarter of 2013, after shipyard construction followed by sea trials, mobilization to Thailand and Chevron’s acceptance.
The contracts commencement dates are contingent on vendor performance and other factors, concluded Transocean in its report.
Half of the world’s rigs
The KFELS Super B Class rigs are an enhanced version of the KFELS B Class and are equipped with cantilever skid-off capabilities and high capacity hook loads of two million pounds for operation in extreme high-temperature and high-pressure wells. Keppel FELS and its network of offshore yards have successfully delivered almost half of the world’s newbuild jackup rigs and semisubmersibles in the past decade.
