Work has resumed on Exxon’s $15.7 billion liquefied natural gas project in Papua New Guinea following a landslide which swept through two villages killing at least four people.
Exxon’s spokeswoman Rebecca Arnold said the one-day stoppage is not expected to impact the schedule of the project, Reuters reported.
Esso Highlands Limited, an affiliate of ExxonMobil and operator of the PNG LNG project said yesterday that a landslide occurred in the Southern Highlands of Papua New Guinea and that the company has shut down work in the Hides and Komo area.
PNG LNG project includes gas production and processing facilities in the Southern Highlands and Western Provinces of Papua New Guinea, including liquefaction and storage facilities (located northwest of Port Moresby on the Gulf of Papua) with capacity of 6.6 million tons per year.
There are over 700 kilometers (450 miles) of pipelines connecting the facilities.
