Atlantis Resources Corporation intends to set up a tidal power farm in the state of Gujarat.

The farm would have the capacity of 50 MW with the possibility to increase it to more than 200 MW.

When complete, this farm will be the first of its type, not just within the country, but also in Asia.

The Gujarat assembly will comprise of 50 turbines of 1 MW each, and it is expected to cost around Rs 750 crore.

Atlantis has decided to set up a farm in Gujarat because of its untapped tidal energy reserves in the Gulf of Kutch and the Gulf of Kambhat.

The Gulf of Kutch extends over an impressive area of 7,300 sq. km and has an average depth of 30 m.

It is well known for its tidal range of up to 8 m, with flow rates of up to 5 knots.

The company is also eyeing on the Gulf of Kambhat, which is not so deep, but has intense tides of up to 9 m and currents of up to 4.5 m/s.

Atlantis and Gujarat Power Corporation will in unison own a tidal power farm.
