The US Department of Energy wants to provide support to offshore wind demonstration projects, and invite companies to apply for grants, reports Platts.

DOE has set a meeting concerning the upcoming funding opportunity announcement for February 7 in Washington.

Last year, great funds were invested in offshore wind technology projects, but it has not been precisely determined how much it is going to be invested this year.

The grants are coming from the efforts made by Obama’s administration to help the offshore wind development, and there are some expectations about cutting the offshore wind costs by the end of the decade.

So far, it has been planned to invest in the wind farm off shore Rhode Island and Cape Wind project off shore Massachusetts.
