International Offshore Rig Count for January Down by 1 Year-on-Year

Baker Hughes Incorporated announced today that the international rig count for January 2012 was 1,171, down 9 from the 1,180 counted in December 2011, and up 10 from the 1,161 counted in January 2011. Baker Hughes Incorporated announced today that the international rig count for January 2012 was 1,171, down 9 from the 1,180 counted in December 2011, and up 10 from the 1,161 counted in January 2011.

The international offshore rig count for January 2012 was 307, up 8 from the 299 counted in December 2011 and down 1 from the 308 counted in January 2011.

The last report of rig activity in Libya was for February 2011.

The US rig count for January 2012 was 2,003, unchanged from the 2,003 counted in December 2011 and up 292 from the 1,711 counted in January 2011. The Canadian rig count for January 2012 was 577, up 148 from the 429 counted in December 2011 and up 13 from the 564 counted in January 2011.

The worldwide rig count for January 2012 was 3,751 up 139 from the 3,612 counted in December 2011 and up 315 from the 3,436 counted in January 2011.

The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canada and international markets. Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity. Baker Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
