Wave energy developer Carnegie Wave Energy Limited presented its proposed Irish demonstration project at the Marine Renewables Industry Association’s (MRIA) Ocean Energy Industry Forum ‘Putting our Marine Renewables Resources to Work’ in Dublin.
The presentation was given by Kieran O’Brien, Carnegie’s Dublin-based Executive Director of European Business Development, on Friday 10 February 2012 and presented details of the proposed 5 MW CETO commercial demonstration project. The presentation is part of a wider stakeholder engagement program to inform the community of the proposed project at an early stage and identify and address any key issues.
In 2011, Carnegie’s 100%-owned Irish subsidiary, CWE Ireland, completed a detailed site evaluation and conceptual design study of a proposed 5 MW CETO commercial demonstration project in Irish waters. CWE Ireland has now subsequently applied for an Investigative Foreshore Licence for an area between Freagh Point and Spanish Point off County Clare.
The purpose of the Investigative Foreshore Licence is to conduct the initial investigations required to assist with further project design. Such investigations will inform and guide the next steps in the development of a CETO wave energy facility which will be the subject of subsequent and separate foreshore, environmental and planning applications.
