Malaysia’s oil and gas company PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd on February 22 sent a Letter of Intent to SapuraCrest’s subsidiary Petcon for the provision of a tender rig known as T-9.

The one-year long contract is valued at approximately USD54 Million including a mobilisation fee.

The Tioman T-9, jointly owned by Seadrill and Sapuracrest, is a self-erecting tender assisted drilling (TAD) rig with state of the art drilling equipment. The mooring system is designed to enable it to work on TLPs and SPARs in up to 6,000 feet of water depth with pre-laid mooring. The contract is expected to star on 1 April 2012 with an option to extend for another 12 months period.

In a statement filed on Bursa Malaysia SapuraCrest said that “The Board of Directors of SapuraCrest is of the opinion that the acceptance of the abovementioned contract is in the best interest of SapuraCrest.”
