The IMDO welcomed the announcement of a new Cork based ship management company that has been launched offering a bespoke consultative service to the maritime industry.

Barry Shipping was established at the end of 2011 by Owen Barry who is a Cork native who graduated from CIT in 1996

Commenting on their future strategy Owen Barrry said, “The company’s aim is to provide clients with creative and profitable solutions to meet and overcome some of the unique challenges in the current climate”

Barry Shipping offer the following services:

• Ship management

• Crew management

• Vessel lay-ups

• Project management

• Training for PSSC and pre Port State.

• Purchasing

• Vessel and Company ISM/ISPS audits

IMDO Director Glenn Murphy added , “ We wish Barry Shipping well with their new venture and look forward to providing them with further strategic and network support to assist them during their continued development”

Owen Barry started his career with BP Shipping as an Engineering Cadet and then moved into the passenger ship side of the business. He served with some of the market leaders in the ferry industry such as Irish Ferries, P&O Cruises and Dobson Fleet Management where he served as Chief Engineer and Technical Superintendent. In 2009 Owen moved back to Cork to run the Operations for Fastnet Line and provided much needed Technical and Maritime knowledge for this start-up company.
