On Monday, April 16, Petrobras’ CEO, Maria das Graças Silva Foster, met with the U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, in Brasilia. The meeting, which was an initiative of the U.S. government, took place 45 days after the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, William Burns, visited the Company’s headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, where he was welcomed by the CEO.
On both occasions, there was a brief presentation on Petrobras’ performance in the exploration and production in ultradeep waters, especially as it relates to the Company’s advances in the pre-salt.
Petrobras’ CEO considered the meeting as very positive and highlighted the importance of dialogue to improve the relations between Brazilian and North American businesses in the energy sector.
At the meeting were the Ambassador of Brazil to the United States in Washington, Mauro Vieira, and the Director of the Department of Energy Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Mariângela Rebuá. The U.S. Secretary of Interior, Ken Salazar, and the U.S. Ambassador to Brazil, Thomas Shannon, were also present.
