Global supplier of fluid transfer systems, FES International, has landed a $1.6m deal to supply Anglo-Dutch energy and petrochemical giant, Shell with six Diverless Bend Stiffener Connectors (DBSCs) for its Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) operations off the Western Australian coast.

The DBSC’s are being procured for Shell’s Prelude FLNG project, which will be the world’s first large-scale floating liquefied gas development.

Once operational, the Prelude FNLG facility is predicted to produce at least 5.3 million tonnes per annum of liquids; 3.6mtpa of LNG, 1.3 mtpa of condensate and 0.4 mtpa of LPG.

The DBSCs are designed by FES International to enable quick, efficient and cost effective installation of Riser and Umbilical Bend Stiffeners in often congested or confined areas.

The latching mechanisms on these DBSCs have been tailored and manufactured to meet Shell’s requirement, providing an automatic intervention which offers safer and more reliable connections.

The FLNG facility will be 488 metres long, making it longer than four soccer field laid end to end. It is the largest floating structure ever built and will be moored 200km off the coast for the duration of its 25 years of production.

Rob Anderson, Managing Director of FES International said: “ FES is proud to be working on this iconic Prelude FLNG project. This demonstrates that FES is the trusted supplier to top brands globally not just Shell but also to companies such as TOTAL, Mearsk and Bluewater all of which have recently commissioned FES to deliver products. This deal adds to a list of recent project wins for us which overarch our aggressive growth strategy .

“ The decision to commission FES for this project illustrates our capabilities to deliver timely and flexible solutions on a global scale. ”
