Robert Allan Ltd. will assist in the restoration of the historic Scottish tug Golden Cross – one of the first diesel-geared tugboats with direct bridge control ever built. Built in 1955 at Scott & Sons of Bowling on the Clyde, the tug has earned it’s place in history be assisting the Royal Yacht Britannia on both her first overseas departure, and her final farewell voyage.

The long term plan of Project Golden Cross is to deploy the tug on the Clyde and Western/ Northern Isles to highlight Safety at Sea procedures to marine contractors, aquaculture companies, wind farm, wave & tidal projects, O&G linked services and leisure craft users. The vessel will also be used to promote the humanitarian and search & rescue work carried out by UK, US and allied servicemen & women.

Over the next few weeks, the Golden Cross will be inspected prior to going into dry-dock for a full program of restoration work.
