JKC Australia LNG Pty Ltd has awarded Laing O’Rourke a $260 million contract to deliver the Ichthys Project Onshore LNG Facilities Accommodation Village.

Early works design for the 3500-bed Howard Springs Accommodation Village (HSAV) project were undertaken in late 2011. Work is scheduled to begin in late April 2012 with staged completions over two years. The final stage is due for completion in 2014.

Laing O’Rourke was awarded the contract by the EPC contractor JKC Australia LNG Pty Ltd (a joint venture between JGC Corporation, KBR and Chiyoda Corporation), following the final investment decision for the Ichthys Project by joint venture participants INPEX and Total on January 13, 2012.

The project will include:

Laing O’Rourke CEO Steve Hollingshead said he was extremely pleased by the announcement as the project is one of the first major contracts awarded as part of the massive Ichthys Project development.

“ Laing O’Rourke will deliver an accommodation village that provides a quality living space during the construction period.

“ We are excited by the opportunity to work with another global leader in the oil and gas sector to deliver this world-class project in our own backyard.

“ With a presence in Darwin and the Northern Territory for over 40 years, Laing O’Rourke will undertake all works as a multi-disciplined design and construction contractor.

“ Throughout the design phase we have ensured that the project integrates with the surrounding environment.

“ We will also ensure that the project contributes to local employment opportunities and we will implement a number of our proven strategies for Indigenous participation.

“ As Australia’s largest privately owned construction and engineering company, we’re proud to be involved in such a large, ground-breaking project for the NT and the complex oil and gas sector .”
