The 500th delivery of liquefied natural gas via the LNG terminal was loaded in the port of Prigorodnoye (Sakhalin Island). After the loading Grand Aniva headed for Japan.
Grand Aniva is one of two Sovcomflot LNG tankers, chartered by the operator of the project – Sakhalin Energy Investment Company (SEIC). Sovcomflot is SEIC’s main partner in seaborne energy transportation for Sakhalin-1 project and for Sakhalin-2 project. Besides LNG tankers, the project is being served by three oil shuttle tankers of ice class 1C and by a supply ice-breaking vessel for production platforms – Pacific Endurance (ice class Ice10), owned by SCF.
It was Grand Aniva which, in February 2009, was visited by Dmitry Medvedev, president of Russia, who took part in the official ceremony of launching Russia’s first LNG in the Sakhalin Island.
The gas tankers built for Sakhalin-2 project has a special feature – an enhanced ice-class hull consistent with the requirements of ice class 1C, which allows the ships to operate in crashed ice up to 40 cm thick.
