The largest oil/gas producer and distributor in China, PetroChina, has launched construction of the Tai’an plant, the country’s largest onshore gas liquefaction plant with home-grown technology and equipment of estimated value rising to $237.94 million, Reuters informed.
The construction of the plant should be completed by 2013, when it will be able to supply 600,000 tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year.
The facility, seated in the Shandong province, primarily adopts many domestic technologies for its LNG process and the equipment to be incorporated has been made in China.
The surge in need for pollution free energy has paved the way for higher demand for LNG facilities and PetroChina has recognized that trend, securing a leading position on the market.
In that respect, the company has launched construction of another plant, the Ansai, of 2 mcm liquefaction capacity per day. The plant is situated in northern Shaanxi and it should be operational in June.
