Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D. (R-South Louisiana), released the following statement after Sempra Energy’s LNG operations recently announced it moved one step closer toward developing a $6 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility in Cameron Parish.
“ I am pleased to hear Sempra secured a final agreement which will lead to a new $6 billion LNG facility in South Louisiana. This latest development means construction would begin as early as next year. The new LNG export facility will add 130 high-paying direct jobs while retaining 60 existing jobs in Cameron Parish. In harvesting one of our state’s most abundant natural resources, the facility will create an additional 610 new permanent jobs along with 3,000 construction jobs during peak activity.
“Having Sempra move forward signals a very bright future for the natural gas industry in South Louisiana. Not only will this export facility increase energy production, it will create many jobs in Cameron Parish. Businesses in this area of the state continue to come back stronger than ever after the devastation left in the wake of Hurricanes Rita and Ike. I will continue to support domestic energy production that begins here at home in South Louisiana.”
