GDF SUEZ E&P Norge AS has, has awarded a frame contract for modifications on the Gjøa platform to Fabricom AS.

Fabricom will, under the agreemenr, carry out modification work involving design basis changes and other major modifications on the platform located 45 kilometres from land near the northern boundary of the North Sea.

“Fabricom AS was chosen because they had the best combined technical and commercial tender” says Atle Sonesen, Managing Director of GDF SUEZ E&P Norge.

The objective of the frame contract is to ensure that GDF SUEZ E&P Norge shall have access to a flexible and professional multidiscipline contractor for future modification work on Gjøa when needed.

The contract covers an initial period of 5 years with two optional periods of 2 years each (5 +2 +2 years). Its value is estimated to 500 million NOK (USD 85.3 million) over the contract period.

The Gjøa semi-submersible platform in the North Sea is the first floating production platform to be supplied with electrical power via a submarine power cable running from the mainland. It is the world’s longest alternating current cable to be installed in one piece.

Partners in Gjøa are GDF SUEZ (30%), Petoro (30%), Statoil (20%), Shell (12%) and RWE Dea (8%).
