Chevron of USA said it has agreed to sell more LNG to Japan from its US$29 billion Wheatstone project.

Chevron Austalia’s managing director, Roy Krzywosinski , yesterday told reporters in Adelaide that the company has signed a preliminary deal with Tohoku Electric to sell one million tonnes of LNG per annum for 20 years.

He also said that with this deal the company sold more than 80 percent of the gas from its Wheatstone LNG project.

Chevron also signed last month a Heads of Agreement (HOA) with Chubu Electric of Japan for the delivery of 1 million tons per annum of LNG to Chubu for up to 20 years.

The company is the operator of the Wheatstone Project and holds an approximate 73 percent interest in the project.

The foundation project will include two LNG trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 million tonnes per year and a domestic gas plant.
