Songa Offshore, a Cyprus based drilling contractor, has announced that Songa Eclipse semi-submersible drilling rig completed its extensive acceptance testing program and started its one well plus 18 month contract with Total E&P Angola on Saturday 19 May .
The rig carried out top hole drilling at reduced rate for Total E&P Angola during April and achieved an operating efficiency of 95% during the operational part of the month.
Songa Eclipse is a Friede & Goldman ExD design DP-2 semi, capable of operating in water depths up to 10,000 feet (outfitted for 7,500 feet) using a 18-3/4″ 15 ksi BOP and 21″ OD riser.
