Skangass of Norway said in a statement that on 30 May 2012, Uddeholms officially began using natural gas for heating some of its furnaces.
The process of converting 30 furnaces from LPG and heavy oil will continue throughout the year. The natural gas is delivered from the Skangass LNG terminal located outside the Uddeholms area.
The terminal consists of two tanks with a capacity of 127 m 3 and one with a capacity of 180 m 3 , in addition to a vaporizer supplying gas to a local network on Uddeholms’ premises.
When all the furnaces have been converted, Uddeholms has calculated consumption to be approximately 11,000 tons of LNG per year, distributed by vehicle from the Skangass terminal in Fredrikstad.
