On Wednesday a malfunction on the internet cable IMEWE caused the internet blackout which continued on Thursday as well, according to dailystar.com.
Telecommunications Minister Nicolas Sehnaoui stated: “There is a crisis due to an internet blackout and we are unable to fix the broken cable near Alexandria, [Egypt]”.
The Minister added that the submarine fiber-optic cable linking Lebanon to international Internet capacities malfunctioned.
They are currently negotiating with Cyprus to allow the passing of the cable through its waters. However, the ministry must seek urgent solutions by linking Lebanon to Cyprus’ submarine Internet cables – Alexandros and Cadmor – via the already existing cable infrastructure.
