Jersey Electricity announces that the energy bills will rise in the future because of the malfunction of its two underwater cables.
At the end of April there was an electrical fault which needs to be replaced on a section of the Channel Islands grid between Guernsey and Jersey.
According to BBC News, one of the two existing cables is still working. That one was installed 12 years ago. The other cable, installed 28 years ago, is still out of function.
Engineers are trying to decide whether the cable should be repaired.
Jersey Electricity is halfway through a project to install a third undersea electricity cable to France.
The eight-year project would cost £60m and should be complete by 2015.
