According to The Trinidad Express, The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is trying to find a solution to its submarine cable failure between Trinidad and Tobago.
T&TEC’s General Manager Kelvin Ramsook stated that a public tender was approved for the number two submarine cable. This cable failed once and was repaired, but failed again in February.
He said: “We awarded a contract to look at the defective section. That is being finalized now so we expect shortly that the defective section of the cable will be looked at and what may have caused the failure. Based on our instrumentation it has suggested where the fault may be. So once we have detected what the problem is we will make a decision on whether we will repair the cable, or whether in fact we will seek to acquire a new cable”.
Chief Secretary at the Tobago House of Assembly Orville London stated that he expected more enthusiasm on part of the Ministry of Public Utilities regarding this problem.
He added: “We are still in a situation where the involvement of the Ministry is laid back”.
