Oceanlinx is searching for local contractors who will build and launch the greenWAVE concrete structure for their 1MW wave energy plant.
As written in an article of The Border Watch Newspaper, featured on Oceanlinx’s official website, the company’s CEO Ali Baghaei and project analyst Sean Barrett visited the region a few days ago to discuss the project with Grant District Council and local fishermen. During the visit, they guaranteed that the project will create dozens of working positions.
An electrical contractor has already been secured, but more contractors and sub-contractors are needed to finish the project by the end of 2013. The most important contractors the company is searching for are a concrete fabricator and a marine operator, as well as subcontractors for machining precision, scaffolding, qualified divers and other support work.
On Thursday, 2nd August, Oceanlinx will hold a public information session on the project for potential contractors, fishermen and the community at the Port MacDonnell Community Complex.
Recently, the company announced that the Australian Government had awarded nearly AUD 4 million in funding for their “Oceanlinx 1MW Commercial Wave Energy Demonstrator” project, worth almost AUD 8 million. It also includes one year of operations post grid connection.
The wave energy plant will be located approximately 4 kilometres off the coastline, with a 20 square metre concrete unit that has two-thirds of the structure under water.
