Modus Seabed Intervention has secured a major contract on EDF Energy Renewables prestigious Teesside Offshore Wind Farm.

Main contractor Van Oord’s appointment of Darlington-based Modus, to provide trenching and survey services on this high profile North Sea project, is an acknowledgement of the region’s strong supply chain and of the firm’s position as a leading specialist in the growing wind farm industry.

In April, Prime Minister David Cameron named Modus as one of the first members of Norstec, a new industry partnership aimed at maximising the North Sea market. Modus is also on the Steering Group of North East England’s Renewables Group, Energi Coast, which promotes the capabilities of the region’s integrated supply chain.

The project will see the company conduct trenching services to bury 26 inter array cables, as well as survey work before and after the trenching. An offshore team of 16 personnel will be involved in the month-long trenching campaign, which starts in August and will be mobilised out of Modus’ facility on the banks of the River Tees.

The project is Modus’ ninth wind farm contract as it continues to affirm its position as a specialist provider in the sector and work has already begun on the pre-trenching surveys.

Jake Tompkins, Managing Director of Modus Seabed Intervention , said: “This is a major contract to have secured and we are very proud to be a North East contractor on such a prestigious development in the region. We are also delighted to be working with Van Oord and EDF.

“The Teesside Offshore Wind Farm is one of the most significant projects in the North Sea renewables market today and Modus’ position on the development is not only a reflection of our growing position in the wind farm sector, but it also strengthens us for future growth.”
