HARBOUR Master Rob Brown thinks Ramsgate could benefit from marine energy.

“This is the most exciting place for Thanet right now. Already this port is serving three of the biggest wind farms in the world and we have the facilities companies need to expand into wave and tidal energy,” he said.

There are three wind farms that are being serviced from Ramsgate port, the Thanet Offshore Windfarm, the London Array and the Kentish Flats.

The big benefit from the port is the industry which has grown around the wind farms.

“In Thanet the economic penetration is quite deep. It has been phenomenal, London Array alone has spent £14 million on business in east Kent. As workers come to Ramsgate, spending money in the hotels, the cafes, shops and bars, the whole town benefits,” says Mr Brown.
