The wind turbines planned by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) as a part of a Montrose project faced refusal by the Angus Council, but the company does not give up on its other projects, specifically the tidal power generation.
Namely, the Montrose project is part of an investment by GSK in the UK. The company plans to build a new plant in Ulverston, Cumbria and invest GBP 100 million in upgrading the existing plants in Irvine and Montrose in Scotland. Also, GSK got permission to use a riverbed for a tidal power project.
“Placing marine turbines in the tidal estuary of the River South Esk, which runs by the site, remains part of the facility’s strategy to produce electricity from renewable sources to become more sustainable and to become neutral in terms of carbon footprint. Development of this first of its kind scheme is part of the £10 million investment,” GSK spokesman Philip Brown told the FiercePharmaManufacturing news site.
