E.ON’s announcement on choosing Newhaven Port as its O&M base for the Rampion offshore wind project has been warmly welcomed by Seaford MP Norman Baker, East Sussex County Council leader Peter Jones and Lewes District Council leader James Page.

The fact that most of the permanent jobs that could be created would employ local citizens is great news for the area.

“This is fantastic news for Newhaven, and something I have worked hard to secure. It will not only create close to a hundred jobs but also establish Newhaven as the port of choice for offshore renewable energy development in the future,” Eastbourne Herald news site cites Mr. Baker as saying.

He added: “This is a real boost for the economy of the town. The tide has turned for Newhaven in general and the port in particular.”
