State of Oregon Territorial Sea Plan Advisory Committee (TSPAC) and Ocean Policy Advisory Committee (OPAC) are close to completing the plan that would provide framework for wave, tidal and offshore wind development, CRbizjournal reports.
The state held public forums regarding the plan for managing the territorial sea which included maps of the areas which the state wants to protect.
Of the 10 potential sites included in the presentation, Camp Rilea in Clatsop County and Pacific City in south Tillamook County are the most suitable.
Camp Rilea is suitable because of its high viability for nearshore wave energy devices, but it would have a high environmental impact.
Also the Nestucca Bay/Pacific City site was mentioned as a one of the top wave energy sites, according to the evaluation.
One of the presenters of the plan said that the developers interested in building the site would have to go through the permitting process, and they would have to work with the communities through the entire process.
After the state’s approval, the plan will be submitted to NOAA and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
