Dolphin Energy announced the award of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for its upgrade project at its gas processing plant in Ras Laffan, Qatar to Larsen & Toubro of India. The value of the EPC contract is worth $250m.

Larsen & Toubro’s scope will include the detailed engineering, procurement and construction of all necessary works to facilitate the installation of three new Rolls Royce Trent gas turbine compressors, each rated at 52 megawatts and related facilities. The $136m contract to award Rolls Royce was announced in April.

Once complete, the three new compressors will join six similar Rolls Royce compressors already servicing the plant. They will improve overall reliability and availability of natural gas exports to the UAE and Oman.

Completion of the project is expected in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Dolphin Energy’s major strategic initiative, the Dolphin Project, involves the production and processing of natural gas from Qatar’s North Field, and transportation of the dry gas by sub-sea export pipeline from Qatar to the UAE, which began in July 2007.
