In the Russian Avacha Bay the local businessmen have started the lifting of over 50 ship wrecks from the seabed, the Russian Navy informs.
One of the ships that is coming up from the water is Trawler Svetly, which has been laying on the seafloor for 1.5 years.
During the lifting operations a lot of heavy equipment is used.
At first, divers put slings under the vessel, and then a crane pulls the hull from the bottom, and when it is on surface, water and the remained fuel must be pumped out.
The director of recycling company Andrei Pazenko said that they have used about ten deep-well pumps during this lift.
Most of the vessels being sunk in the bay are military ships, former property of Navy, and fishing seiners.
Federal Environment Supervision Service considers it is possible to clean the Avacha Bay within the next 5-7 years.
