Pacnet announced that it has delivered additional trans-Pacific network capacity between Japan and the United States to NEC BIGLOBE, Ltd. (BIGLOBE) a member of the NEC group and one of Japan’s leading Internet service providers.

BIGLOBE partnered with Pacnet to directly connect its data center in Japan and the Any2 Internet Exchange in Los Angeles with an Ethernet International Private Line (EIPL) service over Pacnet’s EAC Pacific subsea cable system. This is part of an initiative to improve the user experience of BIGLOBE users when using US-based social networking services and cloud services.

“We are delighted that BIGLOBE has chosen Pacnet to deliver additional connectivity between Japan and the United States. With the growing demand for cloud services and content services outside of Japan, we look forward to further opportunities to help BIGLOBE improve the Internet experience of their users,” said John Garrett, President of Carrier Services, Pacnet.

EAC Pacific is part of the $300 million Unity cable system built with five other global telecommunications and technology companies. Pacnet is the largest investor in Unity and operates two of the five fiber pairs in the cable system independently. The two fiber pairs, collectively known as EAC Pacific stretch over 9,600 kilometers and provide up to 1.92 Tbps of capacity across the Pacific Ocean.

Pacnet’s Global EIPL Service enables enterprise to deliver point-to-point and point-to-multipoint international private connections. Using Ethernet technology as the handoff to customers, it provides end-to-end Ethernet connectivity between customer LANs with a high degree of network transparency.
