For the last 12 weeks, six delegates from the China Maritime Safety Administration (China MSA) have been engaged in a Maritime Safety Exchange Program with AMSA. This exchange program has been made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding AMSA signed with China MSA in 2008.
In their time with AMSA, the delegates have had the opportunity to meet with every section at AMSA headquarters in Canberra, along with the Department of Infrastructure and Transport, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau. They were also able to gain first-hand experience in Australia’s maritime industry in their travels to Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle, Townsville, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Fremantle, where they accompanied AMSA surveyors on ship inspections and met with various industry and emergency staff.
Last week, the six delegates were able to use their work experience gained at China MSA, along with the new information they have learned over the last three months, to deliver a presentation to AMSA’s Canberra staff members. During their presentation, the delegates discussed each of their roles at China MSA, along with some notable differences between China MSA and AMSA.
On Thursday, 6 December, AMSA said goodbye to the six delegates and wished them well on their journey back home.
