JGC Corporation said that jointly with its Malaysian subsidiary, JGC Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., it has been awarded a contract by PETRONAS LNG 9 Sdn. Bhd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of PETRONAS for the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) work for the construction of the 9th LNG Train and its associated facilities in the PETRONAS LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak, Malaysia.
The EPCC Contract is valued close to USD 2.0 Billion, and work is for completion at the end of 2015.
Over the past 30 years, JGC has performed the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning for the existing eight (8) trains at the LNG Complex, and has executed Rejuvenation projects to increase the plant’s production capacity. This additional train, Train 9, will have a capacity of approximately 3.6 million tons of LNG per year and its feedstock will be supplied from PETRONAS’ newly developed offshore gas fields, off the coast of Sarawak, Malaysia.
In January 2012, two groups including JGC, were awarded the contract to take part in a design competition for the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and EPCC Early Works for this project. Both FEED packages were then put through a rigorous technical and commercial evaluation to select the winning Contractor, leading to the award of the EPCC Contract.
JGC has been responsible for the construction of LNG plants worldwide accounting for about 30% of the global LNG production capacity, and is currently involved in four LNG EPC projects in Australia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea, two FEED projects for floating LNG plants in Malaysia and Indonesia, and FEED work for an onshore LNG plant in Mozambique.
