Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) of South Korea has reportedly won a tender to build up to 16 ice-class liquefied natural gas tankers for Russia’s Yamal LNG project.
The agreement also allows transfer of rights to finance the tankers’ construction to third parties – shipping companies chosen by Yamal LNG, Reuters reported.
According to Russia’s news agency ITAR-TASS, the cost of one LNG tanker is estimated at $ 220-230 million, thus the total project cost will make up nearly $ 3.5 billion.
Technip, leader of a consortium with JGC, was in April awarded by JSC Yamal LNG, owned by NOVATEK (60%), TOTAL (20%) and CNPC (20%), a contract to carry out the engineering, procurement, supply, construction and commissioning of an integrated facility for natural gas liquefaction.
The facility will have an annual production capacity of 16.5 million tons and will be based on the resources of the South Tambey gas condensate field located on the Yamal Peninsula, Russia.
