Australia’s Woodside Petroleum announced development plans for their Browse gas fields offshore Australia. The company revealed intention to use three FLNG vessels designed by Shell for the Browse project.
“Given the combined size of the Browse fields the reference case is a phased development comprising three FLNG facilities,” stated Woodside CEO Peter Coleman.
The company said it expects to make final investment decision about building the floating LNG vessels by mid 2015.
“In short, it is clearly the best option we have to unlock the Browse resource, to the benefit of our shareholders and the broader community,” Mr Coleman said.
Earlier this year Woodside evaluated and shelved proposed onshore Browse LNG near James Price Point, saying that development concept did not meet the company’s commercial requirements.
Woodside is operator of the Browse Joint Venture, which is seeking to commercialise the Brecknock, Calliance and Torosa fields in the Browse basin, located approximately 425 km north of Broome in Western Australia. The three fields collectively hold approximately 15.5 Tcf and 417 million barrels of condensate (100% project).
